Once a slide has more than a handful of elements, the Layers tab in the left panel becomes the fastest way to manage them.
Reorder the stack
The Layers list shows every element on the current slide, top layer first. Drag an item by its handle to change its z-order — what sits in front of what. Drop a shape behind your text to use it as a highlight box, for instance.
Hide and lock
- The eye icon hides an element without deleting it — useful for stashing an alternate figure while you decide.
- The lock icon prevents an element from being moved, resized, or nudged. Lock your background and header so they stay put while you work on the content.
Group elements
Select several elements and press Ctrl+G to group them. A group moves, copies, and aligns as a single unit — perfect for a figure plus its caption. Press Ctrl+Shift+G to ungroup.
Duplicate and reuse
Press Ctrl+D to duplicate a selection in place. You can also copy with Ctrl+C, move to another slide, and paste with Ctrl+V — a quick way to carry a consistent header across a whole deck.
Tip
Click an item in the Layers list to select it on the canvas — much easier than hunting for a small element hidden behind others.
